How do you know if someone needs Narcan?
There are several signs that someone may be experiencing an opioid overdose and may need to receive Narcan. These signs include:
Loss of consciousness: If someone is unconscious or unresponsive, they may be experiencing an overdose.
Slow or shallow breathing: Opioids can slow down breathing, so if someone is taking shallow breaths or has stopped breathing altogether, they may be experiencing an overdose.
Blue or pale skin: Opioids can cause a person's skin to turn blue or pale, which can be a sign of an overdose.
Vomiting: Opioids can cause nausea and vomiting, which can be a sign of an overdose.
Confusion or disorientation: If someone is confused or disoriented, they may be experiencing an overdose.
Seizures: Opioids can cause seizures, which can be a sign of an overdose.
It is important to note that not everyone who is experiencing an opioid overdose will exhibit all of these signs, and some people may only show a few of them. If you suspect that someone is experiencing an opioid overdose, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Narcan can be administered while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive.
